STAY IN – Student guidance at university for inclusion is a two-year project co-funded under the European Commission’s Lifelong Learning programme, Erasmus Multilateral Projects. The project aims to provide a comprehensive on-going guidance service, including e-guidance, to students in higher education to contribute to increasing their educational achievement.
Guidance services at university are generally focused on access (learning guidance), and exit (placement, career services). Support for students during their studies is less well-addressed, or not addressed at all. However, most students dropping out from university, point to the need for continuous support during the study lifecycle. This is particularly the case for distance students, given the fact that support services are often available only at the universities’ premises.
STAY IN therefore seeks to design and develop a service capable of supporting students in higher education during their academic career, by offering guidance and e-guidance to access available opportunities within the universities and in the communities where the universities are active. Guidance is conceived of as personalised support for each student to tackle potential obstacles that lead to disengagement and drop-out. Key expected results include:
- an integrated guidance and counselling system for universities, covering processes, methods, tools;
- an eGuidance platform for European universities, designed and developed in order to address the specific needs of higher education institutions and higher education students for of guidance and counselling services, and suitable for supporting on-going guidance and counselling;
- an updated picture of the practices across Europe on guidance for inclusion, and of the student’s point of view on guidance and e-guidance needs during their educational experience.
The 1st International Conference of the Portuguese Society for Engineering Education (CISPEE) will take place in Porto on October 31st and November 1st, under the theme "Education in Engineering: Challenges for Innovation". StudyWorld 2013, the international fair for higher and continuing education, provides first-hand information about Bachelor's and Master's programmes in Germany and abroad. Further topics include internships worldwide, scholarships and other funding sources. Exhibitors include public and private universities from around the world, scholarship and financial aid institutions, student information and consultation services, internship agencies, academic exchange organisations and foundations. The fair's extensive seminar programme comprises around 50 presentations dealing with all aspects of study and careers. Some 170 exhibitors from 25 countries are expected at StudyWorld 2013.
The fair attracts visitors from all over Germany, primarily senior high school students, undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate university students as well as young professionals.
EUNIS Congress is leading ICT conference in Higher education in Europe since 1998 that attract a large audience (300-400 professionals).
It represents an opportunity for sharing of experience amongst international specialists, users, researchers, decision-makers, and teaching staff from all over Europe. Moreover, it is a very good event to present and publish the latest results of research, development, and deployment of Information Technology in HEIs.

The CICE is an international refereed conference dedicated to the advancement of the theory and practices in education. The CICE promotes collaborative excellence between academicians and professionals from Education. The aim of CICE is to provide an opportunity for academicians and professionals from various educational fields with cross-disciplinary interests to bridge the knowledge gap, promote research esteem and the evolution of pedagogy. The CICE 2013 invites research papers that encompass conceptual analysis, design implementation and performance evaluation. All the accepted papers will appear in the proceedings and modified version of selected papers will be published in special issues peer reviewed journals.
The Repositories Support Project (RSP) is a 5.5 year JISC-funded initiative contributing to building repository capacity, knowledge and skills within UK higher education institutions. Through providing guidance and advice it benefits the whole of the UK sector resulting in the wider take-up and development of institutional repositories in HEIs.
The aim of the project is to progress the vision of a deployed network of interoperable repositories for academic papers, learning materials and research data across the UK. Whilst fulfilling the business requirements of HEIs to manage their assets, showcase research outputs, and share learning materials, such a network of populated repositories is a major step forward in the provision of open access materials.
Higher education is facing a range of major challenges during the twenty-first century. Personalised, flexible and open learning are considered among the driving forces, thus, issues of quality must be urgently addressed.
This qualitative, multiple-case-study research with single and cross-case analysis focuses on benchmarking e-learning in higher education. The results of this study include providing conceptual lenses with which to see, discuss and perceive the complexity of benchmarking e-learning in higher education in extended, stretched and boundless learning environments.
