Ed van den Berg is a Senior Lecturer at the AMSTEL Institute of the University of Amsterdam. His activities concern primary and secondary teacher education in science. Ed worked for Unesco in Nairobi, Kenya. He assisted in the development and teaching of Science and Mathematics Teacher Education programs at Satya Wacana Christian University in Indonesia (1981-1991) and the University of San Carlos in the Philippines (1996-2002) in projects sponsored by the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. Ed also worked as teacher educator and developer at the Vrije Universiteit, Utrecht University, and the University of Amsterdam.

Ed serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Research in Science Teaching and the International Journal of Science Education. He published over 300 articles, mainly in journals for teachers, but also research publications on conceptual development in science, use of the laboratory in teaching science, and science teacher education in developing countries.
