ICERI2013 - Call for papers

ICERI2013, the 6th International Conference of Education, Research and Innovation, will be held in Seville (Spain) from 18 to 20 November 2013. 

A platform to discuss the latest developments in the fields of teaching and learning methodologies, educational projects and new technologies applied to Education and Research, ICERI2013 is inviting authors to submit research papers based on a wide array of topics, which they may present in person during the event or virtually. The submission deadline is July 11th.

 

Two ISBN publications will be produced with all the accepted abstracts and papers, and all accepted contributions will be included in the IATED Digital Library to form part of its database of innovative projects in Education and Technology.

 

ICERI2013 Publications will be included in Google Scholar and sent to be reviewed for their inclusion in the ISI Conference Proceedings Citation Index.

 

More than 700 delegates from 75 different countries are expected to attend ICERI2013 in Seville.

Open call for papers for GUIDE - Can online education contribute to overcome the crisis?

This is one of the main questions that the VI International GUIDE Conference 2013, to be held in Athens (Greece) on October 3-4, 2013, will tackle, while providing a comparative analysis of the effects of governmental policies on new training and research strategies.

“The Global Economic Crisis and its consequences on the national educational systems: Can online education contribute to overcome the crisis?”. This is the main question that the VI International GUIDE Conference 2013, to be held in Athens (Greece) on October 3-4, 2013, will try to answer.

 

Abstract submission through the Call for Papers form by May 31.

 

Organized under the patronage of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport of Greece, the event will provide a comparative analysis of the effects of governmental policies on new training and research strategies in response to the economic crisis. In particular, the Conference will highlight the role of digital technologies in providing cost-effective equal learning opportunities, while maintaining a high quality university education.

 

In order to do so, the Conference will be opened by several high-profile keynote speakers, who will give a extremely valuable insight on these questions:

Networked Learning: Call for papers

The Networked Learning in Higher Education, Lifelong Learning and Professional Development Conference, which will take place at the University of Edinburgh, 7-9 April 2014, is now accepting paper submissions. 

 

The 9th Edition of this international conference will provide a place for researchers and practitioners involved in network learning to meet and exhange ideas. Keynote Speakers will include Professor Neil Selwyn & Professor Steve Fuller. All submissions will be peer reviewed, and accepted papers published in conference proceedings.

Memorandum of Understanding OCWC ICDE 2013

The OpenCourseWare Consortium (OCWC) and the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE) signed on 8 May, 2013 a Memorandum of Understanding between the two global associations.

The signature took place during a ceremony at the OpenCourseWare Consortium (OCWC) Global Conference 2013 at Bali, Indonesia.

 

With this agreement, ICDE and OCWC enter into closer cooperation in recognition of their mutual interest in expanded access to high quality higher education through open and distance education.

 

Both parties undertake to explore opportunities in the following areas:

  • Mutual promotion of activities.
  • Joint regional conference.
  • Explore a joint initiative to support policy discussion and development facilitating open and distance education at governmental and institutional levels.
  • Joint membership services.
  • Opportunities to have synergy in projects, for example in giving attention to and promote "flagship projects".

El próximo factor de cambio: Antecedentes históricos de los MOOC en educación

Aunque la historia de los cursos abiertos masivos en línea es muy corta, los académicos pueden ampliar sus conocimientos al estudiar movimientos similares que se produjeron en el pasado. El presente artículo analiza varios momentos históricos en la educación para llegar a comprender los MOOC y su futuro.

 

En concreto, estudia dos acontecimientos que tienen puntos en común con el discurso que rodea a los MOOC –la aparición de studia particularia y studia generalia en la Europa medieval y los sistemas monitoriales de principios del siglo xix. Asimismo, examina varias innovaciones educativas que han provocado cambios profundos en la educación. Algunos ejemplos de ello son las land-grant institutions en Estados Unidos, la University Without Walls (UMass Amherst) y los movimientos educativos abiertos en las décadas de 1960 y 1970. Estos movimientos son muy instructivos para los defensores de los sistemas educativos MOOC que pueden desarrollar estrategias para impulsar los cursos abiertos masivos en línea y darles una resonancia duradera en la era digital.

Book about Personalized Learning Environments - "Entornos personales de aprendizaje: claves para el ecosistema educativo en red"

Linda Castañeda and Jordi Adell are the editors of "Entornos personales de aprendizaje: claves para el ecosistema educativo en red", a book about personalized learning environments (PLE) published under a Creative Commons licence.

The book (only available in Spanish) aims to give the reader an introduction to the concept of PLE ecosystem and the pedagogical ideas underpinning it. It also shares some relevant experiences that exemplify how it can be used in all levels of education and how research is approached from different PLEs perspectives.
