reAct project International Conference 2012
The reAct project final conference, which brings this two year project to a close, will bring together a group of projects to discuss experiences and results centred around the main axes of the work done in the project. These are creativity and autonomy as facilitators of intrinsic motivation, and the challenges involved in integrating new approaches in traditional curricular contexts, which most innovative projects face. The conference will be a forum for these projects to share their perceptions around these axes and derive some conclusions.
The reAct Project - International Conference:
“Empowering teachers and learners for a digital world”
will be held in Valencia (Spain) on October 10, 2012.
ReAct, re-activating teachers and learners, is a transnational European project within the Lifelong Learning Programme of the European Union, KA3 (ICT). The project duration is from 01/01/2011 to 31/12/2012. The project website is at http://www.reactproject.eu
The percentage of youth who do not complete compulsory education is a significant social problem in Europe and one of the main challenges of professionals in training is promoting the intrinsic motivation of students. There is a huge disconnect between educational programs and what students expect to learn or see as relevant to their lives.
The goal of reAct is to develop a methodology based on enhancing the autonomy, creativity and collaboration of students and teachers through ICT tools including web 2.0, with a view to facilitating the development of learner motivation, and to explore how to integrate this innovation into existing educational programs.

The structure of the reAct International Conference includes two keynote speeches. The first of these by Wim Veen (University of Delft, NL) will focus on innovation in the classroom, the other will be by Lieve van den Brand (European Commission, responsible for educational policy design)will look at educational innovation from a policy perspective. These will be followed by three round tables on creativity, autonomy, and innovation. Finally a brief presentation of the conclusions of the discussions will be made.

Call for papers - International Conference 'The Future of Education'
Call Deadline: 14-Nov-2012. The third edition of The Future of Education International Conference will take place in Florence, Italy, on 13-14 June 2013.
The objective of The Future of Education Conference is to promote transnational cooperation and share good practice in the field of innovation for education. The Future of Education Conference is also an excellent opportunity for the presentation of previous and current educational projects.

The Call for Papers, within the New Perspective in Science Education Conference, is addressed to teachers, researchers and experts in the field of science education as well as to coordinators of science and training projects. Experts in the field of science teaching and learning are therefore invited to submit an abstract of a paper to be presented during the New Perspective in Science Education international conference. The abstract should be written in English (between 200 and 500 words) and sent via email to science@pixel-online.net no later than 14 November 2012.

VISIR Stakeholders consultation - An unorthodox consultation about visions and scenarios on future of learning
The VISIR project – “Vision, Scenarios, Insights and Recommendations “ is the initiative of seven European networks one research centre and one University involved in the open, distance and e-learning field. It aims to develop a shared vision on how ICT may help making lifelong learning a reality. The project is co-funded by the European Commission Lifelong Learning Programme.
The objective of the VISIR Stakeholders’ Consultations is to involve professionals and practitioners as well as decision makers, students, civil society representatives, to build on their opinion and experience, to develop a common vision on how ICT may help making lifelong learning a reality.
We are counting on your contribution to help to identify and analyse the trends on ICT and learning in Europe. It will take only few minutes of your time and even could be fun to reflect on the 14, somewhat provocative and tricky statements which you will find in the consultation. Such statements were elaborated following a memorable brainstorming seminar in Bologna in May 2012, with the participation of a bunch of experts gathered from all the continent. They analysed the domains of change, the polarities and tensions and the main lines of evolution and trying to outline future scenarios from here till 2020. Thus, the statements in the consultation are related to the year 2020.

We seek empirical investigations, literary reviews or interviews within the range of research in language and literature teaching methods. We will accept submissions in Catalan, Spanish, French and English. Submissions to the journal are reviewed by the editorial board and advisory board, using a critical process of blind peer review.

Internet Science Summer School 2012
The Network of Excellence Internet Science is currently inviting applications from early career researchers for the first Summer School to be held in Oxford from 12-18 August 2012. The theme of the summer school is "Internet Privacy and Identity, Trust and Reputation Mechanisms," with sub-themes addressing online identity and ACTA/SOPA/CISPA.
Academic Programme
The principal aim of the programme is to promote interdisciplinary discussion of issues related to Internet Science among early career researchers (advanced PhD students and those in the first four years of their research career) engaged in research related to Internet privacy and identity, trust and reputation mechanisms. Daily activities will be structured around morning lectures and afternoon discussions aimed at developing participants’ thinking on a range of issues central to the Internet. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss their research with faculty and other early career researchers. A range of social events will provide informal opportunities for continued discussions and networking among participants.
The summer school will draw upon the strengths of the Network of Excellence in Internet Science (described below) and will involve participation of many of its members, in addition to colleagues from partner institutions.

Participants will meet and work with a diverse group of their peers, a considerable benefit for researchers who may not have large academic peer groups in their own departments. Additionally, participants will:

We welcome applications from early career researchers in any discipline whose work in the field of Internet research engages with the theme of the summer school and reflects the disciplinary base of the Network of Excellence in Internet Science, as described below.
About the Network of Excellence in Internet Science
The Network of Excellence in Internet Science aims to develop an integrated and interdisciplinary scientific understanding of Internet networks and their co-evolution with society. The network is composed of over thirty research institutions across Europe from a variety of disciplines including physics, sociology, game theory, economics, political sciences, network engineering, computation, complexity, networking, security, mathematics, humanities, and law, as well as other relevant social and life sciences. Its main objective is to enable an open and productive dialogue between all disciplines that study Internet systems from any technological or humanistic perspective, and which in turn are being transformed by continuous advances in Internet functionality.
Fees and activities
Delegate fees are £900 and this includes 7 nights’ en suite accommodation at Queen’s College, daily breakfast, lunch (including one BBQ) and refreshments, and two evening college dinners. Summer school participants will have an opportunity to take part in Oxford social activities.
Applications must be submitted by 5p.m. (GMT) on Friday, June 1st. We will notify successful applicants by Friday, June 15.

Vision, Scenarios, Insights and Recommendations on how ICT may help making lifelong learning a reality for all
The aim of the VISIR network is to contribute to the full exploitation of the potential of ICT to transform and innovate European lifelong learning and to equip European citizens with digital competencies and other key transversal competencies for life and employability.
Why VISIR
The use of ICT for learning in Europe is gaining ground, but to uncap its potential as a driver of change for our economies and societies, we need to move from fragmentation and piloting to articulation and system adoption.
To address this need, seven European networks and two research institutions, with the support of the Lifelong Learning Programme of the European Commission, have joined forces and will work for the next three years to address three major gaps: the “understanding gap”, the “networking gap”, and the “mainstreaming gap” of ICT for learning in Europe.
The VISIR Approach
VISIR tackles three levels of analysis and action: macro (education and training systems), meso (organisations which provide teaching and learning opportunities) and micro (teaching and learning opportunities themselves), and will include a foresight component to enhance proactive change in effective ICT exploitation in learning.
