The digital-earth.eu project examines the use of geographic media in schools and teacher education.
Geo-media is the visualisation of information from different media sources and is concerned with digital content and its processing based on place, position and location. Many geographic media are widely used for navigation and routing purposes. Cartographic communication has never been so easy to implement, therefore 21st century school education needs to include geo-media into daily work. Innovative approaches to teaching and learning are needed to study environments from local to global scale.
The digital-earth.eu network links innovative centres around Europe where geo-media use is well developed. Products, resources, experiences and ideas are shared between the centres and opened to the public wherever possible.
A digital-earth.eu infrastructure is under development. The European Centre and an accredited network of national and regional Centres of Excellence are developing an online catalogue of materials, courses, publications, links and good practice scenarios, and are publishing a series of core publications.
The digital-earth.eu network project is a Comenius Multilateral Network (2010-2013). It complements the activities of two previous Comenius Multilateral Projects (GISAS and iGuess) that used specific GIS software and produced teaching materials for schools and training courses for teachers.
The digital-earth.eu network seeks to provide broad access to resources (Europe-wide and international), promoting innovation and best practice in the implementation of geo-media as a digital learning environment for school learning and teaching. The goal is to raise the profile of learning with digital geo-media. The network encourages the sharing of innovative practices and rewards organisations and individuals displaying ‘excellence’.

Study on Knowledge Maturing in Europe
The MATURE Integrating Project is based on the concept of knowledge maturing (KM): goal-oriented learning on a collective level. The project investigates how KM takes place within and across organisations, what barriers are encountered and how socio-technical solutions overcome those barriers.
Mainstreaming eLearning in National Policies
elearningeuropa.info is supporting the Workshop 08: "Mainstreaming eLearning in National Policies" of the first annual Digital Assembly by hosting a dedicated community. This community offers access to the Workshop, its materials and discussions.
The Digital Agenda for Europe is the European Union's road map for bringing the benefits of a digital society and economy to Europe's citizens. The 101 actions announced in that strategy are discussed in the first annual Digital Assembly in Brussels on June 16-17.
The workshop will discuss the current situation of ICT for education and training in Member States, the potential obstacles to full scale adoption of eLearning, and the necessary pre-conditions to mainstreaming it in formal, non-formal and informal learning (ICT infrastructures, teachers’ competencies, etc).
The expected outcome is a set of priorities and actions encouraging Member States to innovate in their education and training through adopting and integrating eLearning into teaching and training. It should also include recommendations to the Commission on how to support the Member States in their endeavour.
We welcome everyone interested in the challenges of Mainstreaming eLearning in education and training to participate in this community.

The 6th EFQUEL Innovation Forum entitled "Certify the Future!?... Accreditation, Certification and Internationalisation" seeks to discuss certification systems for higher education, discuss certification in adult education and schools, for individuals and for organisations from Europe and beyond. We would like to invite you to debate the value of certifications, to examine good practice examples of innovative ways of certification in the various educational fields and to shape a future vision of how certifications can evolve to become instruments to certify the future.

Digital Agenda Scoreboard
The Digital Agenda contains commitments to undertake 101 specific policy actions intended to stimulate a virtuous circle of investment in and usage of digital technologies. Several actions are undertaken in the domain of education: identification of descriptors of digital competence; a policy handbook on digital competence; the development of indicators to measure the use of ICT in education; and large scale crossnational demonstrations on creative learning and innovative teaching.
