The TEL Thesaurus and Dictionary meta-project

20 September 2011

The TEL Thesaurus and Dictionary meta-project intends to create an intellectual platform to support the conceptual and theoretical integration of TEL research.

The TEL Thesaurus establishes a list of the key words currently used across TEL research (based on the corpus provided by journals and conferences). The idea is to structure this set by...

  • reviewing the list of keywords and identifying those which are specific to TEL research, from those which are in fact disciplinary keywords
  • reviewing the TEL specific keywords to cluster them from a conceptual and/or theoretical and/or a methodological perspective.

The TEL dictionary will provide definitions with key references exploiting preferably open access resources, and in particular the TEL open archive.

TIES 2012 - III European Conference on Information Technology in Education and Society: A Critical Insight

30 Maj 2011

During these years, education at all levels, and the social conditions for most people have not improved at the same rate as digital technology. In fact, the drop-out rate in formal education, involving a large number of students from secondary school and the university, and the widening gap between the experiences, life and values of young people and adults, is beginning to be the source of a cause for alarm. Digital technologies are cast as a solution to today's educational needs, or alternately as a problem that needs to be resolved.

In this context and situation, it seems appropriate to re-offer a space where we may reflect together, in a conscientious and critical manner, on the processes related to the use of ICT in education, and what might be its role in the creation of knowledge.

From a critical perspective, and through the exchange of different views, practices and themes, the aim is to expand our knowledge about:

  1. New cultural and educational contexts derived from the development of digital technologies in a globalised world.
  2. The incorporation of ICT in teaching and learning processes.
  3. Methodological changes associated with the use of ICT and their impact in education practices.
  4. The role of educational policy in the promotion of educational innovation and improvement.
  5. The training of different agents in the education sector.

Participants' main task will consist of exploring and developing the issues that emerge during the conference. Participants will be able to make critical judgments about the value of ICT development and its use in teaching and learning, its impact on participation in contemporary society, and its role in shaping the future.

iEducate

09 September 2009

iEducate promotes and enables elearning to vocational teachers across Europe

The purpose of this project - funded by the EU programme Leonardo da Vinci - is to educate vocational teachers in a range of e-learning methods, innovations and technologies to better prepare them for a rapidly changing workplace and, hence, to connect them with a new generation of learners.

The iEducate project transfers learning technology innovations developed in European and other projects which were originally developed for and with learners to vocational education and training professionals (VETPROS) across Europe. The project developed an e-learning course on Learning Technologies, a virtual teacher training island in Second Life with virtual workshops and resources, an interactive web 2.0 Website and live training courses. The project website also provides lots of resources to download, use and develop further.

The idea is to achieve a reciprocal arrangement whereby VETPROS in receipt of training/support are encouraged to provide ideas on how they have implemented technologies in their learning for use by others, thus forming a continuous cycle of exchange and transfer across Europe.

The partnership is made up of six partners from the UK, Sweden, Bulgaria, Hungary, and Germany and combines a wide range of complementary skills and expertise including expertise on technologies for learning/e-learning, access to vast numbers of VETPROS across Europe, research, evaluation, experience and contacts to facilitate an effective dissemination/valorisation process.

Vocational teachers and trainers can also participate in our thematic working groups to exchange ideas and experiences with European colleagues in the area of:

  • Self employment and enterprise
  • Media, language and communication
  • Culture and heritage
  • ICT and Disabilities

The project regularly organises transnational meetings. It is the aim of every project meeting to involve national stakeholders, teachers and trainers, people from IT companies etc. for an exchange about the topic.

The important input given supports the team members in their work and guarantees the creation of customised and useful offers for vocational education.

The e-learning course “Approaches to e-Learning & Developing a paedagogically sound e-Learning course” developed within the project and offered from June 2011, with a duration of 12 weeks is open for registration on the iEducate project website.

This course is suitable both for those with little or no knowledge in developing e-learning or those wishing to formalise their existing knowledge and gain an accreditation in the subject of e-learning. This course is particularly suitable for the following groups:

  • Trainers or vocational teachers who wish to gain skills and knowledge in developing e-learning to support their teaching practice
  • IT developers who wish to understand pedagogical principles and effective ways of embedding learning into e-learning.
  • People with a responsibility for overseeing the development of e-learning within their organisation but have little prior knowledge of e-learning development.

IKT in elektronska glasba za znižanje šolskega osipa v Evropi

23 april 2010

Projekt namerava aplicirati eksperimentalen pristop z uporabo IKT, zlasti elektronske glasbe in informatike.

Kako meriti inovacijo v e-learningu: metoda i-AFIEL

30 april 2009

The paper is based on an article published in the proceedings of International Conference of Education, Research and Innovation (ICERI 2008), Madrid (Spain), November 17-19, 2008, Ed. International Association of Technology, Education and Development (IATED). ISBN: 978-84-612-5091-2.
